FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOVEMBER 2007

Eric Blum

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER  29– THURSDAY, January 10, 2008

OPENING RECEPTION: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 6 – 8 PM

New York- lemmonscontemporary is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new paintings by Eric Blum.  This will be BlumÕs second solo exhibition at the gallery.

Eric BlumÕs resin, wax, and silk paintings reveal themselves over time, like the subtle glimpses seen from the corner of your eye.  Each coat acts like a filmy veil, a translucent obstruction of vague forms that impress upon the viewer a multitude of subconscious references.

The layers of BlumÕs paintings serve as markers of time, one layer applied per day, recording imbedded flashes of perception and memory.  The mixture of thick resin or beeswax poured over thin sheets of silk, challenges the physicality of the materials.  The smooth surfaces wrap around the edges, quietly enclosing the fleeting moment.

Eric Blum was born in Fresno, California.  He studied at the University of California in Los Angeles and the Saint MartinÕs School of Art in London.  Mr. Blum has exhibited widely and his work was featured at the Knoxville Art Museum, Knoxville, Tennessee, The Albright Knox in Buffalo, New York, and the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He currently resides in New York.
